Cook Mode Timers

Never miss a step again. Cook Mode automatically detects any time mentioned in your recipe and turns it into a tappable countdown timer.

Automatic Time Detection

When you enter Cook Mode, Honest Recipes scans each instruction step for time references and makes them interactive:

  • “Bake for 25 minutes” → tap to start a 25-minute timer
  • “Simmer for 1 hour” → tap to start a 1-hour timer
  • “Rest for 10 minutes” → tap to start a 10-minute timer

Works with minutes, hours, seconds, and combinations (e.g. “1 hour 30 minutes”).

Starting a Timer

  1. 1.Enter Cook Mode for any recipe
  2. 2.Look for highlighted times in the current step (e.g. “25 minutes” appears in orange)
  3. 3.Tap the time to start the countdown
  4. 4.The timer starts immediately and appears at the top of the screen

Running Multiple Timers

You can run several timers simultaneously — perfect for complex recipes:

  • Example: Start a 45-minute oven timer, then start a 10-minute sauce timer
  • All active timers appear at the top of Cook Mode
  • Each timer counts down independently
  • Tap any timer to pause, resume, or cancel it

Timer Alerts

When a timer completes, you'll get an alert:

  • Sound alert: A notification sound plays (customizable in device settings)
  • Visual notification: The timer flashes orange to grab your attention
  • Screen on: If your device supports it, the screen wakes up when the timer completes

Notifications work even if you lock your screen or switch to another app (if device permissions allow).

Pro Tips

  • Add times to recipes: When editing recipes, include specific times in instructions (e.g. “bake 25 minutes”) to enable auto-timers
  • Works offline: Timers run locally on your device — no internet needed
  • Pause anytime: Tap a running timer to pause if you need more time
  • Clear completed timers: Tap “Clear” on a finished timer to remove it from the list
