“What Should I Cook?” is your ingredient-based recipe finder. Enter what you have in the fridge, and get matching recipes from your library plus top-rated recipes from the web — all with automatic import and smart filtering.
How It Works
- 1.Go to What Should I Cook? from the main navigation
- 2.Type or speak the ingredients you have (e.g. “chicken, broccoli, garlic”)
- 3.Optionally set time filters (quick < 30 min) and dietary preferences (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free)
- 4.Tap “Find Recipes” and see two result sections:
- From Your Library: Recipes you've already saved, ranked by ingredient match
- Top Rated Recipes: Web recipes from Brave Search with ratings, times, and automatic import
Ingredient Input
You can enter ingredients two ways:
- →Type: Enter comma-separated ingredients (e.g. “pasta, tomatoes, basil, mozzarella”)
- →Voice (if supported): Tap the microphone icon and speak your ingredients
Voice input uses your browser's Web Speech API. It works in Safari (iOS/macOS) and Chrome. Make sure to allow microphone permissions when prompted.
Time & Dietary Filters
Narrow down results with optional filters:
Time Filters:
- →Quick: Recipes under 30 minutes
- →Normal: No time limit (default)
- →No limit: All recipes, including long-cook meals
Dietary Filters (multi-select):
- →Vegan: No animal products
- →Vegetarian: No meat or fish
- →Gluten-Free: No wheat, barley, or rye
- →Dairy-Free: No milk, cheese, or butter
Dietary filters use best-effort heuristics on ingredient names. They're helpful but not perfect — always check the full recipe if you have strict dietary requirements.
Trending This Week
Before you search, browse what's trending on the web right now. The Trending This Week section shows popular recipes from across the internet, updated regularly to reflect current cooking trends.
- →Scroll horizontally through trending recipe cards
- →Each card shows the recipe photo, title, category, and why it's trending
- →Tap any card to visit the source website
- →Use the Import button to automatically add the recipe to your library
Trending recipes are great for discovering new ideas and seasonal favorites without needing to search by ingredients first.
In Season Now
The In Season Now section helps you cook with fresh, seasonal ingredients. It automatically shows ingredients that are in peak season for the current month.
- →Tap any seasonal ingredient to instantly add it to your ingredient search
- →Combine multiple seasonal ingredients to find recipes that use what's fresh right now
- →Seasonal ingredients update automatically each month based on typical growing seasons
Cooking with seasonal ingredients often means better flavor, lower prices, and reduced environmental impact.
Web Recipe Search
When you search, Honest Recipes uses Brave Search to find top-rated recipes from across the web based on your ingredients. Results include:
- →Recipe title, photo, and source URL
- →Star rating and review count (when available)
- →Cooking time and servings
- →Which of your ingredients are used, and what extras you'd need
Web recipes are automatically imported from their source URL when you tap them — no manual copy-paste needed. They're saved to your library just like any other recipe.
Web recipe search requires sign-in and uses the same rate limit as AI features (photo scan, dietary transforms). It's available to both free and Pro users.
Library Matches
Your library matches show recipes you've already saved, ranked by how well they match your ingredients:
- →Great match (90%+): Recipe uses most of your ingredients
- →Partial match (50-89%): Recipe uses some of your ingredients
- →Low match (<50%): Recipe uses a few ingredients, but you'll need more
Each result shows which ingredients match, and what you're missing (if anything). Tap any result to view the full recipe.
